You are perfect to God!

These days Facebook makes us feel like we can’t live up to what everybody else has or does.  Facebook seems to cause us to become jealous of others lives.  I know that I have felt that I don’t make enough money or look as good as someone because of my weight gain.  It’s a never-ending cycle.  I am here to tell you, please don’t feel that way anymore!  God has shown me and continues to show me that He loves me!  He reminds me of this in Psalm 139:13&14 (NIV)  For you created my inmost being: you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. God made us in His image.  That is what makes us special, not because of what we have or what we look like.  Focus on the good qualities that you have.  Make a list on an index card and place the card on your bathroom mirror.  When you are getting ready in the bathroom, look at your lists and say them out loud to yourself.  Include: I am worthy, beautiful, dependable, loving, caring, etc… God wants you to read the Bible to get encouraged.  Try to not get on Facebook everyday.  Instead read your Bible and see how much better you will feel about yourself. Remember that God wants you to love yourself as much as He loves you!

Cheap and free things to do to entertain your kids during the fall

1. Take your T.V. outside and watch a movie. We put the T.V. on a table, sit on big blankets and pillows on the ground and eat popcorn. The kids love it!

2. Bake desserts together

3. Go to your local library. See if they have a local Zoo DVD to watch to receive free tickets to your local zoo. We can rent our DVD and go to the Atlanta Zoo for free! It includes 2 adults and 2 children tickets.

4. Go to church or city fall events. A lot of churches and cities have fall festivals. Also, if you live near a major college, the college students have trick or treating events.

5. Get a group of friends who have kids and take turns hosting a play date at each others house.  Have each family bring a snack.

6. See if your city has First Friday.  A lot of times they will have events for kids there.

7. Have a Halloween Party at your house.  Have it where parents stay and bring a snack.  My friend Claudia used to have pumpkin carving competitions.  Each child brought their own pumpkin and carving utensils.  The parents and children worked together to carve out their pumpkins.  Have small prizes for the scariest, funniest, happiest, silliest, most fat, most skinny, tallest, shortest, etc…  Then we ate and the kids ran around and had fun!  You could have Halloween games for the kids too! (Bob for apples)

8. Go for nature walks

9. A lot of farms have lots of fall activities for families.  Ours has a corn maze, hay rides, playground, jump house and animals to see.

10. Roast marshmallows over a fire and make s’mores.

11. There are many Universities that have Wildlife Centers and Museums for a few dollars a person.

12. Go on a picnic

13.  Bake cookies and take them to the the nursing homes, fire department, police station and EMS.

14. See if your Recreational Department offers for free.

15. Libraries have a lot to offer for free.

16. Home Depot and Lowes offer workshops for kids for free.

17. Attend local plays at schools and performance art places.

18. Go fishing and then eat what you catch.

19. Invite neighborhood kids and have each child do a magic trick while the audience enjoys a snack and a drink.

20. Look up Minute to Win It games and have competitions.

After the Storm

Hurricane Matthew was no joke.  We were so scared and stayed up all night because trees were falling on our house. Thank you God that no one was hurt! The trees were tearing up our roof while my husband and I were praying hard all night long.  We did so much to prepare for the storm.  Why don’t we as Christians, spend much time and energy preparing for our personal storms.  When we have hurricanes we spend a lot of time gathering things together to keep us safe.  God wants us spending time with Him in the Word and on our knees.   I have started kneeling at my bed again to be submissive to God.  It seems simple but really powerful.  You should try it sometime because it is a humbling experience!

The Storm ends with a Rainbow

The Storm ends with a Rainbow

I don’t live too far from Savannah, GA. Hurricane Matthew hit us pretty hard.  It damaged our house and it was scary to wait it out. This storm reminded me of life. We don’t know exactly when a problem is coming or how hard it will affect us. The only thing I can count on is that God is my anchor. When I was 17 I became pregnant. My parents were so disappointed. Being a minister’s daughter put me under the microscope. My life was a whirlwind! I found out who my friends were and believe me it wasn’t many.  Adults at my church let me know how disappointed they were of me. I had to find my strength (anchor) through God and my family. It was a lonely time, but looking back I can see where God took care of me. I learned that we as Christians need to be there for people in time of need with loving arms. Teach them what the Bible says about what they are doing in a loving way. The good thing is that the storm doesn’t last forever. It does end in calmness and gets better. Now I can proudly say, that my son loves our God just as much as I do. I am very proud of him and can’t imagine life without him. My son is my rainbow at the end of the storm!!!

Heal Your Marriage!

My husband and I have been married for almost 20 years. It hasn’t always been an easy road to travel for either of us. After a year of marriage we were separated for 10 months. We had combined our families and being a step parent is no joke. My husband and I had a hard time adjusting and agreeing on how to parent. One day I was watching the 700 Club and it talked about marriage. They talked about how love is a choice and not a feeling. I chose to return to my husband and obeyed God. It took counseling and layers of anger to fade away. We are completely in love with each other again. It took time, but we gave it the time that we needed to heal. God has to be your focus. My prayer at night, is not for God to change specific things that my husband does that bothers me, but for my husband to desire what God wants. When your husband desires what God wants and you desire what God wants for you, then you will find common ground. I can’t stress enough that doing marriage with God is hard, but doing marriage without God is harder. God loves you and desires for you to believe in Him and accept Him to be your Lord and Savior. He gave His one and only Son for us and we never deserved it! What an awesome God we have!

My husband and I were foster parents for 6 years. We adopted a 3 year old. She is 8 now and keeps me young or maybe old! Lol. She is a blessing to us. There are also challenges that come along with it. Foster children that are older have already been molded within the first 3 years of their life. She loves us but also feels the void of her birth parents not being there. I know when she gets older she will realize that God is the only one who can feel that void! He is the only one!! My love is not enough for her but God’s love is. We are very close, but I’m also the one she feels comfortable enough with to let her anger go. Parents just don’t understand the ramifications they have on their children. Especially if drugs and abuse are involved. If you are thinking about fostering or adopting, I encourage you to do it. Both you and your child with be a blessing to each other.

God’s Not Dead

My husband and I were watching “God’s Not Dead” movie last night. It reminded me of my own losses. We logically know that God allows bad things to happen. He doesn’t cause them to happen. Sometimes it’s still hard not to feel mad at God because we don’t understand why. I have lost a set of twins before they were born. I still wonder about them. I know God allowed them to be taken for a reason that’s beyond my understanding. I gain comfort in knowing they are in heaven waiting for ME! God is using me now to help others who are going through the same thing. I named them and am excited to meet them one day. We will be reunited again forever! Being mad at God doesn’t do anything but hurt you. As long as sin is in this world and we have free will, we will suffer more loss and pain. Something else to think about is that one day God WILL destroy Satan and our pain will be NO more!!! Justice will be served!

Trust in God all of the time!

I was reading my Bible the other day and came across where Jesus fed the five thousand in John 6.  It’s a good children’s story, but it’s more than that.   When I feel that a task is impossible, I turn to this story.  We tend to limit what God does in us by assuming what is and is not possible.  Is there some impossible task that you believe that God wants you to do?  Don’t hesitate anymore.  Go for it!  God can do miraculous things, so trust Him to provide for you.  This blog was my impossible!  God reached out to me through others and cheered me on to start writing.  I felt that I didn’t know (and still don’t know) enough about computers to start this. I am navigating my way with God’s help.  I hope you join me through this journey!

Come as you are; no judgement here

I am so glad that you visited my blog and I have been praying for each one of you! I want to write to you to share experiences that I have had and how God has worked in my life. This is a new adventure and I am sooo excited!
